Let the Good Times Roll!
Laissez les bons temps rouler! The spirit of New Orleans will be invading Estes Park on Fat Tuesday, February 13, 6-10pm at the American Legion Hall on the corner of highways 36 and 7. American Legion Post 119, the Estes Arts District, Lumpy Ridge Brewery and Elkins Distilling Co. are hosting a Mountain Mardi Gras Party. Craft beverages including Hurricanes ala Elkins Whisky will be available for purchase along with red beans and rice plus Mardi Gras beads, party favors, great music, and of course, King Cake!
This event is open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes and/or masks for a costume contest with fun prizes! Merriment and dancing begins at 6:00 pm with music provided by the band Nexus. A $5 cover charge will get you a shot at the bar, beads and party favors, and help pay the band.
The centerpiece of the event is a Gumbo Cook Off that starts at 7:00 pm, with judges to select the best and most authentic gumbo. First Prize $100, 2nd and 3rd place Prize $50. Please pre-register to compete in this fabulous contest! Anyone who is interested in participating or needs more information can email firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. A minimum of three gallons of gumbo is required, and an independent panel of know-it-all judges will award the big winner. Rice will be provided.
Troy and Angie Koehler, owners of the Erin Rose Pub in the French Quarter of New Orleans, are donating a genuine King Cake to our Estes Park extravaganza!
Event proceeds will provide ongoing support for the rejuvenation efforts of American Legion Post 119 in Estes Park. So, come on out and let your good times roll while supporting an iconic flagship of our community.
